Letter from the Incoming President:
May 26, 2008
As the incoming president of APRA of Greater New York,
I'd like to welcome you to our Chapter Web Site. APRA of Greater New
York, a chapter of APRA International,
has been in existence since 1997. In that time, we have presented
dozens of educational seminars and workshops, instituted an annual
scholarship program, and assisted prospect researchers in the Greater
New York area to advance their skills and careers.
I entered the field of prospect research in the
early-1990s, and after a decade-long hiatus, returned to the field
in 2004. While considering returning to the field of fundraising, I
took a number of workshops at the Foundation Center. After attending
the first workshop, I recall remarking to a friend "it felt like coming
home; I loved everyone I met; I want to work with these people."
Shortly thereafter, I joined APRA of Greater New York, which has been
instrumental in helping me rejoin the research community and sharpen my
skills for 21st century fundraising.
In 2007, I joined the board of APRA of Greater New York
out of a desire to get more deeply involved with our research
community. It has been a privilege to serve on our board. I am
consistently impressed and amazed by the depth of commitment,
intelligence, creativity and generosity that prospect researchers bring
to their work, their institutions, and their relationships with other
researchers and fundraisers.
For the 2008-2009 year, I have been given the
opportunity to serve as the president of APRA of Greater New
York. I am very much looking forward to getting to know more of
you in the coming year.
Have a wonderful summer and see you in September!
Deborah L. Drucker
President, 2008-2009
